That’s why Johanna Constantinou, interior trends expert at Tapi Carpets & Floors has partnered up with Sarah, dog mum to popular pet duo @Peanut_and_Pablo² to share expert-backed advice on how to keep your home clean and avoid hair and mud-covered rugs.

When Peanut and Pablo, the miniature dachshund stars behind Instagram’s beloved @Peanut_andPablo, aren’t busy charming their 71K followers, they’re turning Sarah’s carpets into napping zones. But despite the chaos, their home stays impressively clean. It’s all about the right routines, the right flooring, and a few clever habits they’ve learned over time.

Pet hairs be gone

When it comes to hair and dander, Sarah recommends using a pet-specific vacuum with high suction, tangle-free brushes, and a HEPA filter. However, her go-to tool is a rubber brush, “If you haven’t tried one, you’re seriously missing out. It pulls embedded fur out of carpets and rugs using static, especially in those tricky spots like stairs,” she says.

How to deal with carpet emergencies

Sarah has learned how to balance pet parenting with a clean, stylish home. Her secret? Realistic routines, smart product choices, and preventative habits that work.

For carpet emergencies (muddy paws being the usual culprit), Sarah swears by a pet-safe stain remover like Vanish, “Spray, blot, let it dry, panic averted.” She’s also a big believer in deep cleaning with a carpet cleaner every so often, either rented or owned, noting that “it’s always highly satisfying and disgusting in equal measure when you see the colour of the fluid it collects!”

According to Johanna, “Deep cleaning is a game changer. A well-timed professional or DIY clean can lift years off your carpet. Just be sure to follow the correct technique, which is appropriate for your type and composition of carpet, avoiding over wetting or leftover residue, and your floor will look and feel fresh again. If there are areas of concern, such as a muddy paw mark, it’s always a good idea to action cleaning these as soon as possible. For mud, vacuum clean thoroughly when dry and follow up with a suitable carpet shampoo, paying extra attention to woollen carpets. To remove the final stubborn areas, blot with a white cloth and repeat if necessary.

Clean hard floors without harming paws

For her light-coloured vinyl and hard flooring, Sarah only uses pet-safe cleaners, noting that many standard products leave behind residues that aren’t suitable for paws. Tapi echoes this concern in its smooth flooring guide, recommending non-abrasive, low-residue cleaners applied with a damp (not wet) cloth, especially for vinyl and laminate, which are both water-resistant but not waterproof.

• Keeping a towel by the door as a reminder to wipe paws after walks.
• Using a microfibre towel rug inside the back door, soft, super absorbent, and now one of Pablo’s favourite nap spots!
• Setting up a dedicated drying-off area (in her case, the kitchen), so muddy pups don’t head straight upstairs or onto furniture.

These simple, consistent habits align closely with Tapi’s advice. “Mats at entrances, pet-safe rugs, and zoning off parts of the house after a walk are little changes that make a massive difference,” says Johanna. “It’s the kind of thinking that turns a stressful mess into just part of the daily routine.”
