With summer holidays underway and more people opting for UK staycations thanks to the rising cost of, well, everything, dog-friendly travel is more popular than ever. But with so many campsites calling themselves “dog friendly”, how do you know which ones actually live up to it?
Searches for ‘dog-friendly camping’ have jumped by 13% in the past month alone, hitting a massive 61,000 searches, showing just how many of us are planning summer getaways with our four-legged friends.
Simon Crawshaw, a grain-free dog food specialist at Hilltop Pet Food, has dug into the data from hundreds of top-rated campsites to uncover the UK’s favourite dog-friendly spots, highlighting the ones with standout facilities, glowing dog-related reviews and the kind of welcome that makes all the difference when holidaying with your pup.
“Dogs are part of the family, so it’s only natural that owners want to include them in their holiday plans.” Says Simon. “But there’s a big difference between a site that simply allows dogs and one that’s genuinely set up for them.”
From safe walking areas and on-site dog facilities to how welcome your dog feels, those details really matter when you’re planning a stress-free trip. That’s why Hilltop Pet Food wanted to look past the label and find out which campsites truly deliver for dog owners.

How to pick the right dog-friendly campsite (According to the experts)
Simon shares his top tips for choosing a campsite that’s truly great for your pup:
- Look for dedicated dog facilities like off-lead areas, secure walking zones, and shady spaces
- Check reviews for mentions of dogs, they’ll often reveal more than the listing itself
- Avoid overly busy or loud campsites during peak season, as these can overwhelm dogs
- Make sure the area is safe for dog walking, with access to dog-friendly trails or beaches
And of course, don’t forget the essentials: a cool mat, collapsible water bowl, and their favourite natural dog treats for the journey.
