Brits looking to make the most of their outdoor spaces this winter are being told of tips and tricks to warm up their gardens.
Garden design experts at Pergolux UK have shared their advice on adding warmth to an outdoor space and making it suitable for all year round use.
In 2023 it was reported that UK households collectively spent roughly £8billion on retail garden products.* With people investing so much into their gardens, it’s important to make the space suitable for all year round use.
The experts have shared the top things to consider adding to the garden so it can be used in autumn and winter.
Garden design expert Sam Stevens from Pergolux UK said: “People who have spent a lot of money on pergolas, patio spaces and garden furniture should make the most of their outdoor space all year round.
“There’s a lot of ways to warm up your outdoor space so you can enjoy a cosy evening outdoors with your friends and family.
“You’d be surprised how much a space warms up with a patio heater, a firepit, blankets and throws.”
How to warm up your outdoor space:
Add a patio heater
Investing in a patio heater means you’ll be able to get the most out of your garden all year round, no matter the weather. Heaters can be fitted onto your pergola or on an exterior wall of your home.
Or a firepit
Firepits are another way to add warmth to your garden and they also make for a great feature. Like heaters they can also be used on late summer nights making them a great all year round investment.
Incorporate lighting for warmth
Adding soft warm LED lights to your space can create a cosy ambience and look great. If you have a garden table add some candles to your space, this is also a good way to keep any insects away from food and drinks.
Add soft furnishings
Use soft furnishings like outdoor cushions, throws and blankets to warm up the seating area. Outdoor rugs are also a great investment that can make your patio, pergola or gazebo feel just like inside.
Use warm colours
Opt for warm and inviting colours like browns, brick reds, beige, creams and burnt oranges when choosing your soft furnishings.
Add windbreakers
If you are sitting in a pergola or gazebo consider adding screens and panels to prevent feeling the breeze of the wind. Placing potted plants around your seating area is another way to block the breeze.
